3:30 PM – 4:30 PM | Discussion Group: Inside the LIMS: Brainstorming AI/ML use cases to make tomorrow’s LIMS more intelligent

Jeff Vannest, LabVantage Product Management

We all want a smarter LIMS. We want to reduce manual and redundant steps, receive intelligent and apt recommendations, and work with systems that suggest future actions based on historical activity. Join us for a brainstorming session on how the LIMS of the future can make laboratory operations faster, more efficient, effective, and improve turnaround times with higher quality results.

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM | Discussion Group: Reducing the validation burden through modular delivery

Matt Grulke, LabVantage R&D

Implementing LIMS systems can be complex and burdensome. Especially when systems must follow rigorous computer system validation requirements such as those that would be required by a GxP (and similar) environment, reducing this burden while increasing quality, accuracy, and speed is essential. Join us for a brainstorming session to ask questions, hear about what LabVantage is already doing in these areas, and give us your ideas.

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM | Discussion Group: LabVantage ELN & LES

Mark Hill, LabVantage R&D

The LabVantage ELN and LES provide significant functionality for both routine quality and also R&D laboratories. With software improvements coming quickly and routinely, LabVantage would like to get your feedback and additional ideas toward making our LabVantage software the absolute best on the market.

Wednesday, October 19th

7:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Registration Desk Open

7:30 AM – 9:00 AM | Breakfast

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM | Using QC Batches to schedule and forecast laboratory workload

Willem van den Hout, Business Process Lead LIMS, Aspen Oss B.V.

In order to make efficient usage of the available laboratory resources (people and instruments), Aspen Oss enabled the usage of QC Batches in LabVantage. The QC Batch functionality helps us create sample trains per test method and start the analysis of a QC Batch when the maximum number of samples is reached or when the must start date is reached in order to deliver the analytical results on time. In combination with PowerBI reports, pulling information from the Aspen Data Lake, the QC laboratories can monitor their current workload, forecast, and identify when analyses need to be started.

9:30 AM – 10:30 AM | Exploring the new User Experience and LabVantage Portal

Gary Stimson, LabVantage R&D

LabVantage has begun a journey to update our user interface (UI) and with it comes a new user experience (UX) that we believe you will find compelling, modern, and most importantly, productive. We will discuss the new UI design framework, Material UI, and how the new experience will slowly be refactored into the existing application by taking a look at the new Portal.

10:30 AM – 11:00 AM | Break
11:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Instrument connectivity with LimsCI

Izem Kaci, LabVantage Professional Services

LimsCI is used by LabVantage customers to connect laboratory instruments. Using Talend Open Studio as a powerful and user-friendly ETL (extract, transform, load), LimsCI offers an easy way – without requiring deeply technical skills – to create instrument drivers that read and write data to and from complex instruments. Compatibility, notifications, logging, data integrity, and traceability can be guaranteed.

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM | Using Job Types for Access Control to Simplify SOX Audit

Wayne He, Sr. Manager, Software Engineering, Guardant Health

LabVantage provides many ways to limit user access. Directly using roles and department access allows fine-grained control per user, but led us into a complex state that QA or SOX auditors could not grasp. To simplify, we transitioned to using Job Types instead.

12:00 PM – 1:30 PM | Lunch
1:30 PM – 2:00 PM | Catching Up with LabVantage DevSecOps

Ed Anderson, LabVantage R&D

DevSecOps is short for “Development, Security, and Operations”. As a mantra, everyone in every organization of a company should be aware of and contribute to the increased modernization, automation, security, and interoperability of the products, teams, and tools for that company. In reality, most companies suffer from only the development and testing teams giving this work lip service at the end of new release cycles.

LabVantage recognizes that DevSecOps is becoming increasingly important. To address this need, we have created a team to specifically manage, catalyze, and enforce all aspects of the goals, and it focuses on how R&D produces an efficient, interactive, well-balanced, and high-quality product. This presentation will catch you up with some of our most important work in each of the three areas in our name (Development, Security, and Operations).
