CTEC 2018 Training Courses

Training will take place Wednesday, October 24 (after lunch) until noon on Friday, October 26. Breakfast, breaks and lunch will be provided each day. Below is the training schedule and course descriptions.

Wednesday, October 24

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) Introduction
Vaquero E1 & E2

We all come from using paper; from kindergarten to university, consuming information on a physical page becomes ingrained. The LabVantage ELN allows users to view, edit and manage laboratory data in a manner that emulates paper documentation. This training class will teach you the fundamentals of our ELN including Workbooks, Worksheets and the Worksheet Manager. This hands-on approach will give you the introductory knowledge to dig deeper into this rich feature set on your own system.

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Master Data Management improvements in LabVantage 8.4
Vaquero F1 & F2

LabVantage 8.4 will improve your management of master data. The new Master Data Navigator will allow you to create master data more quickly using a top-down approach and see which items still need to be completed before approving the entire testing template. Need to bring a new lab online? The Master Data Collection Tool in 8.4 is an Excel spreadsheet that non-LIMS users quickly enter master data and have it imported by the OOB data file definitions (DFDs) before it is reviewed and approved. Finally, are you tired of trying to find errors when importing those spreadsheets? The improved DFD function gives specific feedback on which row and cell created the error and provides enhanced data validation options so that non-conforming data can be quickly identified before it is imported into the LIMS.

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Sample Monitoring
Vaquero G1 & G2

This new module enables you to schedule the collection of samples and keep track of test results so you can monitor the performance of your process. This could be for the purpose of environmental monitoring, statistical process control, or random spot checking for quality. This class will cover the definition and management of locations, sample points, and schedule plans. Learn how to use images to visually identify the testing areas. Using hands-on, scripted exercises you will gain experience in tracking down excursions that may be found in your environment.

2:45PM - 3:15PM | Break

Thursday, October 25

7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | Breakfast
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Introduction to LabVantage
Vaquero E1 & E2

Are you new to LabVantage or just need a refresher on the new user experience? Learn the LabVantage user interface, trams limes, tram stops, and how to perform essential end-user activities. Having mastered these functions, you will be able to focus more on the science and less on the software. Working examples are provided during hands-on instruction.

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Creating Web Pages
Vaquero G1 & G2

This full-day class will give you the skills to extend your implementation using the Web Page Designer suite. This LabVantage toolkit is how you create new pages or modify existing layouts, pages, elements, page types and gizmos for use within the LabVantage application. You will learn how to control the behavior of your List, Maintenance, and Lookup pages through modifications to page properties. You will leave with the ability to tailor and streamline the user experience with the new features available in LabVantage.

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Work Resource & Planning (WAP)
Vaquero F1 & F2

The Work Assignment & Planning (WAP) module in LabVantage 8.4 brings several exciting improvements to managing your laboratory workload. Assignments can now be made using a robust drag-and-drop interface, and improved calendar views allow you to quickly visualize current assignments, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource assignment and scheduling for greater testing throughput. Learn how to quickly allocate work among qualified users and instruments based on even distributions, maximum or minimum workloads. Manage work calendars by resource, groups, departments, and work units by tests or groups of samples or batches.

Friday, October 26

7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | Breakfast
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Laboratory Execution System (LES) Introduction
Sonoran A & B

The performance of a test in your laboratory might include the need to execute certain steps in a defined sequence with additional documentation on how to perform that test shown on your screen. Sometimes called a “Quality ELN”, the LabVantage implementation of LES generates a Worksheet that is based on a Test Method and a Global Worksheet Template. Once implemented, Worksheets can help enforce laboratory procedures, improve the quality of captured data, and lead users through the execution of complex testing methods. Learn how to configure this optional module to conform to your laboratory processes.

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Data Retrieval
Sonwai 1, 2, 3

There are many ways to extract data from your LabVantage database. Some of the most direct tools available to you are: AdHoc Queries, Configuration Reports, List Pages, the Global Search, and traditional third-party reports registered in LabVantage. Learn how to configure and execute these queries to mine your data effectively.

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM | QC Batches and Laboratory Consumables
Sonwai 4 & 5

In LabVantage terminology, a QC Batch is a group of samples, including quality control samples, which are processed together using the same method, the same lot of reagents, at the same time or in continuous, sequential time periods. Learn how to create the QC Methods necessary to control the quality of your processes, including the positioning of QC Samples within the unknowns, calculate the difference between recorded and actual values, and how reagents or other consumables are used during testing. Finally, explore the control charting functionality to identifies variations in a process.
