Traditionally, in order to analyze laboratory data, laboratories construct multiple sets of reports or queries. However, those reports or queries are pre-constructed or pre-defined, and managed by a system or database administrator, forming a gap between the actual needs of the end-user and the "canned" information in the report or query. This results in reports with limited value to the end-user or constant bombardment of IT resources needed to create new reports or queries to satisfy a variety of user needs. Today, as companies are striving to accelerate time-to-market, an informatics tool allowing laboratory end-users to access vital information and create on-demand, interactive queries or reports is a mission-critical application. Through an enterprise portal, this tool should be able to provide global, secured access to laboratory data, while offering intuitive usability for non-technical users. From an IT perspective, this would ideally be achieved through a single or integrated technology platform or solution.
Understanding these challenges, LabVantage has developed a robust, easy-to-use Ad-hoc Query Tool for its SAPPHIRE Laboratory Information Management Suite (LIMS). With an aim of maximizing use and analysis of laboratory data, SAPPHIRE's Ad-hoc Query Tool enables end-users to construct and execute complex queries against the SAPPHIRE database, with no technical skills, database administration experience, or knowledge of SQL required. Users can perform ad-hoc or configured queries on SAPPHIRE data, including samples, experiments, projects, results, specification, clinical data, etc. Built on top of SAPPHIRE's thin-client enterprise platform, the Ad-hoc Query Tool empowers authorized end-users, both inside and outside of the laboratory, to simply create and publish full-featured reports as needed via a zero-footprint web browser.
SAPPHIRE's Ad-Hoc Query Tool supports all types of query relations, including one-to-many, many-to-one, and many-to-many. End-users can construct their own queries by navigating the object structures in a drag & drop layout, or simply execute pre-configured queries by selecting and supplying the criteria needed. Queries can be maintained by the end-user or securely promoted to other users of SAPPHIRE internal or external to the organization. Moreover, all of the security, compliance, and multinationalization features and restrictions of SAPPHIRE are fully maintained with the Ad-Hoc Query Tool.
SAPPHIRE's Ad-hoc Query Tool simplifies access to information and improves knowledge sharing throughout the global enterprise, expediting queries with meaningful results to be shared with critical personnel. Ultimately, it gives back the power of query construction and reporting to end-users.
