| National Cancer Institute Core Genotyping Center Goes Live with LabVantage Sapphire™ Life Science LIMS |

Bridgewater, NJ March 1, 2004. LabVantage Sapphire™ Life Sciences LIMS used for high throughput genotyping analysis and evaluation of new technologies and innovations in genotype analysis.
LabVantage Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of Life Sciences LIMS and Enterprise LIMS solutions, announced today that the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Federal government's principal agency for cancer research, and a component of the National Institutes of Health, is now live with LabVantage's Sapphire™ Life Sciences LIMS solution. The Core Genotyping Facility of the Intramural Program of the National Cancer Institute performs high-throughput genotyping and sequencing to support genetic analysis for a broad range of projects for NCI's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) and Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The Core Genotyping Facility is currently performing high throughput genetic analysis of over 25 different case-control and cohort based association studies, with as many as 75,000 separate samples expected to be analyzed. NCI's Core Genotyping Facility is using LabVantage Sapphire™ software to perform the high throughput genotyping analysis.
LabVantage Sapphire™ provides NCI with the ability to manage and track details of every sample from the DNA provider through the Core Genotyping Facility's functional laboratory units. It also provides the laboratory with capabilities for electronic worksheet generation, sample and genotype reagent tracking, and instrument and robotic integration. To increase operational efficiency, Sapphire™ is also used to track costs of all samples and genotypes processed. Prior to the implementation of LabVantage Sapphire™, there was no unified electronic system to coordinate the high throughput analysis. The implemented LIMS addresses critical issues in sample handling, SNP and assay validation, high throughput genotyping and quality control.

The LIMS will enable the Core Genotyping Facility to discover, validate and provide more SNP genotype data to NCI investigators, more accurately and efficiently. Increased amounts of the highest quality SNP genotype data will further enable NCI investigators to translate hypotheses into findings with public health implications.
