Bridgewater, NJ 4 August 2003. LabVantage Sapphire™ Life Science LIMS to be Utilized in Instructing
Informatics Graduate Students at Leading Edge University.
LabVantage Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of Enterprise LIMS and Life Sciences LIMS solutions, today announced that Indiana University, one of the country's academic leaders in information technology, has selected LabVantage Sapphire™ Life Sciences LIMS for its School of Informatics. The new school is the first in the United States devoted exclusively to the emerging field of informatics.
The school initiated a new Laboratory Informatics Graduate Program, which will admit its inaugural class in the autumn of 2003. This program, the first of its kind in the country, will be taught in a new, state-of-the-art research facility on the Indianapolis campus. The curriculum, culminating in an M.S. degree, will offer general courses in informatics, and specialized courses in laboratory informatics, covering, for example, data acquisition, instrument interfacing, laboratory robotics, chromatography data systems, laboratory information management systems, electronic laboratory notebooks, regulatory compliance, quality control, and scientific data management. Project management and system selection, implementation, and validation will also be taught.
"The School of Informatics Graduate Program at Indiana University will provide its students with the most up-to-date learning experience of any program in the world," said J. Michael Dunn, Dean of the School of Informatics. "We very much appreciate the support and contribution of LabVantage to our academic program."
"The selection of LabVantage Sapphire™ Life Sciences LIMS as a core component of the technology framework for Indiana University's new School of Informatics is a testament to the growing importance of data management in research organizations," said Scott Deutsch, Vice President, Global Marketing of LabVantage Solutions. "This is an exciting time in the world of informatics. The initiation of this new school of informatics is a concrete example of the maturation and stability of the life sciences technology industry."
The graduate program is designed for professional, working students with undergraduate degrees in the physical or life sciences, who seek advanced training in laboratory informatics to pursue careers in the agricultural, biomedical, chemical, food, petroleum, and pharmaceutical industries. Graduates would work primarily in commercial and municipal laboratories as operations specialists, LIMS analysts, and lab managers. A significant job market also exists with laboratory software and instrumentation companies in sales, service, and training positions.
