| Genencor Signs Software Agreement with LabVantage for Sapphire™ Informatics™ |

Bridgewater, NJ July 11, 2001. Sapphire™ Informatics to assist in enhancing research efficiencies
in protein engineering and protein expression research
LabVantage Solutions, a leading provider of drug discovery informatics data management solutions for genomics, proteomics, high throughput screening and combinatorial chemistry, today announced that Genencor International, a global leader in the development and delivery of innovative biotechnology products, has signed a software license and services agreement for LabVantage Sapphire™ Informatics. Genencor anticipates using the software to enhance its operational and research efficiencies in its genomics technology operations.
Sapphire™ Informatics offers superior automated data management capability to help in the management of genomics technology for those addressing the needs of the health care, agricultural, and industrial chemical markets. Genencor plans to use the software to further streamline its data acquisition and data management of various information handling robots and instruments.
