Coors Brewing Company Signs Software Agreement with LabVantage Solutions for Sapphire™
Bridgewater, NJ June 12, 2001. Sapphire™ continues to build market momentum at world-class food and beverage manufacturing laboratories with it's scalable browser/server based software

LabVantage Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of laboratory information solutions, announced today that The Coors Brewing Company, the nation's third-largest brewer, has signed a software and services agreement with LabVantage for LabVantage Sapphire™ to be used as an integral component in their Quality & Productivity Initiative Project.

LabVantage Sapphire™ is a leading software solution that helps leading laboratories build the virtual laboratory to increase productivity, lower operating costs, and improve quality and customer service. Sapphire™'s configurable process automation and communication capabilities allow laboratories of any size to model their business-specific workflows, seamlessly integrate with analytical instruments and leverage the Internet for internal and external communications. Sapphire™ was developed in collaboration with leading laboratories around the world to provide the functionality, flexibility and scalability that will meet customers' needs both today and in the future.

The LabVantage solution for Coors Brewing is an enterprise-wide laboratory software solution that addresses distinct business needs, thus enabling each business unit to better manage their lab information, to deliver better customer service capabilities and to realize improved operating margins through automation and superior technology. Key operational improvements and benefits projected are:

Consolidation of multiple, disparate operating unit databases
Automation of data entry from lab instrumentation to decrease transcription time and improve accuracy
Automation of result limit checking to drastically reduce response time
Connection to SAP R3 QM Module
  Interface with Coors MES
Ability to track sample status through entire process, helping to identify bottlenecks and provide better customer service

Sapphire™'s n-tier scalable architecture will enable the Coors Brewing Company to share real-time quality control information through the corporate intranet, and reduce their IT costs. By being able to act on real-time quality control information at a fraction of the traditional IT costs, Coors expects to significantly reduce its laboratories' operating expenses.

"We look forward to working with a world-class food and beverage company such as The Coors Brewing Company. The selection of Sapphire™ by Coors Brewing, after an extensive product evaluation, further validates that Sapphire™ has the functionality desired by world-class organizations, and provides an extendable technology environment to meet their needs today and in the future," said Scott Deutsch, vice president, global marketing for LabVantage Solutions. "In the end, it was the extremely configurable, drag and drop workflow manager that made LabVantage and Sapphire™ the winner at Coors.

Brewing Company by demonstrating to Coors that they will be able to mirror their business processes today and easily make configuration changes to address their changing business requirements."

Sapphire™ 3.0 and Food and Beverage Process Manufacturing Laboratories. Sapphire™ 3.0 is a 100-percent browser-based solution that does not require any plug-ins or applets to be downloaded to provide browser-based functionality. Sapphire™ is a browser/server solution that has a complete three-tiered architecture and a scalable application server layer. Sapphire™ 3.0 was designed with two key design criteria: first, access to functionality must be self-evident, and second, the user must be able to execute a desired task with a single click. No more than two clicks would be acceptable. LabVantage's mission was to stop the "menu-tree madness" that exists with mature client/server applications. For today's leading laboratory, it is critical that training and education costs be kept to a minimum.
