LIMS Architecture

LABVANTAGE has as its foundation a thin-client architecture, developed to provide users, both internal and external to the laboratory, with the ability to access their LIMS system from virtually any internet or intranet access device.

LABVANTAGE leverages standard corporate infrastructures and enables open flow of information between internal and external systems, as well as integration with 3rd party applications. LABVANTAGE supports access from any internet/intranet device running Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0+ and other popular browsers like Safari, Firefox and Chrome running on many different internet devices. LABVANTAGE provides a zero-installation, zero-footprint browser/server architecture, which greatly simplifies enterprise application deployment and administration with no plug-ins, downloads or applets required on the end-user client.

As more and more enterprises look to consolidate systems and centralize their expensive infrastructure resources, we are seeing larger and larger systems being configured. To support these large systems LABVANTAGE has, from its inception, supported Application Server clusters. The following figure shows the scalable, high-performance environment and how the various layers interact and connect seamlessly. This environment allows all servers in a cluster to perform equally, with the load balanced across each server with server-specific load balancing algorithms.

In addition, LABVANTAGE operates on the following application servers:

  • IBM WebSphere®
  • BEA WebLogic®
  • Sybase® EA Server
  • JBoss™ Application Server
